FLOPPY'S and SPEED
Need to calculate the dimensions for building a 4 Stroke Header exhaust? 4 stroke exhaust header design just got easier with 4T HEADER WIZARD.
There are numerous formulas and equations available to be found for calculating exhaust header lengths, but they HAVE SERIOUS FLAWS. For example one of the BIG FLOPPY'S is that they DO NOT ALLOW for the INFLUENCE of EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES (EGT) to be incorporated in the header dimension calculations. What...?? It is behind me, how one can design a header without considering EGT temperatures or to assume that all engines run on the same EGT!
EGT (Directly determining wave speeds) is one of the most important aspects in designing an efficiently working exhaust header! CORRECTLY DESIGNED HEADERS ensure that the negative pressure component of each exhaust pulse reaches the exhaust valve when BOTH the EXHAUST & INLET valve is open (Cam Overlap Period), thereby assisting cylinder scavenging. Or to explain it this way, tuning reflection waves to work together at very accurate timing is what makes your exhaust branch make Extra Horsepower.
50 DegC EGT difference make 17m/s (Yes 17 Meter/ or 55 Feet per second difference!) in the distance a reflection wave travel in 1 second! This make all that equations Mr. X is using in designing his exhaust header with, near useless as EACH INDIVIDUAL ENGINE gives a DIFFERENT EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE (because of cam timing, combustion chamber design, BMEP etc. etc.), which in turn will give different speed of the reflection waves, giving a different tuned length of the final header pipes. The same goes for DIFFERENT FUEL TYPES that will alter the EGT readings significantly... Now where were we before I got all exited and stated frothing at the mouth? Oh yes...
Ok, I made my point and we don't have time for a scientific analysis of this matter, so let's get to speed. 4T HEADER WIZARD allows for the AUTOMATIC CALCULATION of the EGT (or manual input of the exhaust gas temperature (EGT) if it is measured). 4T HEADER WIZARD can do this by looking at various things such as the BMEP (also automatically calculated by the software) Fuel Type, Combustion Chamber Shape, RPM etc. and it do true gas flow & reflection wave simulation with resulting design results giving you a optimized header design for each individual engine every time.
If you want serious HP waiting right there in your existing engine, custom build a header to match your engine spec’s
The 4T HEADER WIZARD Header Design Program also adds significant value to many popular engine simulation products as these products assume you are using a correctly designed header exhaust system, which is what the 4T HEADER WIZARD Header Design Program produces. The spec's is also valuable if you are planning to purchase a set of aftermarket exhaust headers, comparing models with your specs or modifying an existing header to the correct tuned lengths. This software will prove to be an invaluable tool to all pro engine tuners as well as DIY enthusiast alike. No Floppy's only Speed!
If you think you need this software we have done our best to make it an affordable, value for money product and have given a choice of purchase options, so take one that suit your needs and thank you for your time...
Q: WHY USE 4T HEADER WIZARD FOR A TURBOCHARGED ENGINE? A: Because you will gets the same performance at a slightly lower boost setting altering your engines efficiency.
Q: I HAVE BOUGHT A FAMOUS BRAND RACING HEADER, IS USING 4T HEADER WIZARD ANY HELP? A: When designing an exhaust header lots of factors come into play, Cam Timing, Peak RPM, Exhaust Port Diameter, EGT and BMEP Values to name but a few. Comparing 2 exactly similar engines, but one with a 290Deg, 108Deg Lobe Centers Brand X cam and the other with a 280Deg 106Deg lobe centers Brand Y Cam they will need different exhaust headers. That "Racing Branch" you bought is made to work on a very specific setup, so ALWAYS OPTIMIZE your exhaust branch dimensions to YOUR SPECIFIC ENGINE SPECS for MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE. SCRATCH-BUILT OR ALTERS AN EXISTING HEADER. Whichever option you choose, there is FREE HORSEPOWER in your EXHAUST HEADER waiting to be found.
